Four of the reasons this exists.
Every guide, every feature and every product traces back to an animal we have actually lived with. There have been dozens over twenty-three years. Here are four of them. None of their stories are tidy, and all of them are in the guide in full.
Panda
Six months in a very small cage, with skin left untreated until it was severe. Two years on he has a short list of people he trusts, and a wardrobe.
Linlin
Rescued from cruelty. She lost an eye, and it took almost a full year before she felt safe. It was a month before anyone heard her bark. She now steals her siblings’ food.
Toro
The clever one, and the hardest. He tics and chews at his arm, so he wears a cone around the clock. We are still looking for the thing that helps.
Ruthi
She came to us at eight, dumped at over eight kilos by the family who replaced her with a younger dog. Two vets had already called her terminal. She died in our arms at fourteen.
